Bose QuietComfort Headphones Review: Quiet Enough?
Bose's over ear noise cancelling headphones with plush cushions, two listening modes and a long battery. Built for long days at a desk or on a plane.
Yes, for a husband who works from home, commutes or flies, because they shut out a loud house and stay comfortable for hours [1]. The battery runs up to 24 hours [1]. Skip them for the gym; over ear cushions and sweat do not mix.

Pros and cons
- Expensive [1]
- Not for workouts
- Over ear cups get warm in summer
A quiet room on demand
The point of these headphones is silence. Bose combines active noise cancellation with passive sealing so he can shut off the outside world [1]. The dishwasher, the TV in the next room and the kids' video calls fade.
Quiet mode is full cancelling; Aware mode lets the room back in so he can hear a question without taking them off [1]. Switching takes one button.
For a husband on video calls all day, that switch is the difference between headphones he tolerates and headphones he forgets he is wearing.
Comfort for a long day
Plush over ear cushions and a padded band are made for extra long listening sessions [1]. Over ear designs spread the pressure, which suits men who find earbuds sore after an hour.
Battery life is up to 24 hours, and a 15 minute USB-C charge adds up to 2.5 hours [1]. Multipoint Bluetooth lets them switch between his phone and laptop without re-pairing [1].
There is also an audio cable with a microphone, so they work wired on a plane's entertainment system or when the battery runs out [1].
Price and the gym problem
This is the most expensive gift in the guide. If he only listens to podcasts while walking the dog, a cheaper pair of earbuds is enough.
Over ear headphones are also wrong for the gym. Sweat soaks the cushions and they shift when he moves. For workouts, he needs earbuds.
In hot weather the cups get warm, so in summer he may reach for them less.
The big gift he uses daily
Big gifts work best when they become part of a routine. A husband who takes calls from a busy kitchen or flies for work will use these every single day.
From this guide, they pair with the Carhartt travel kit for the husband who travels, or with the Lost Cities card game to balance tech with time together.
Set them up before you wrap them: charge them, install the Bose app on his phone and pair them, so he can put them on the moment the paper comes off. The app also delivers software updates and the adjustable EQ for bass, mids and treble [1].
FAQ
Are Bose QuietComfort Headphones good for working from home?
Yes. Active noise cancelling quiets household noise, the plush cushions are built for long sessions and multipoint Bluetooth switches between a phone and a laptop [1]. Aware mode lets him hear the room without taking them off, which helps when kids or deliveries interrupt [1]
How long does the battery last?
Bose lists up to 24 hours on a single charge, and a 15 minute charge over USB-C adds up to 2.5 hours of listening [1]. There is also an included audio cable, so they still work wired when the battery is flat [1]
Can you use Bose QuietComfort Headphones at the gym?
They are not designed for it. Over ear cushions trap heat and sweat, and the headphones can slip during movement. For workouts, sweat resistant earbuds are the better choice, and these stay at the desk, on the couch or on the plane [1]
