Chia Pet Bob Ross Review: Happy Little Sprouts?
Bob Ross in terracotta, with chia sprouts for hair. A joke, a plant and a desk companion in one box.
Yes, for desk dwellers and Bob Ross fans. The planter comes with seeds for three plantings and grows full in one to two weeks [1]. In an office without a window, the sprouts need a sunny spot to grow.

Pros and cons
- Needs light and water for a week or two
- Sprouts are a short-lived look until the next planting
Hair that grows in
A potted plant is a polite gift. A Bob Ross whose famous hair grows in as green chia sprouts is a funny one. The planter is terracotta pottery [1].
Everything comes in the box: the planter, a plastic drip tray and chia seed packets for three plantings [1].
It is a gift with a short story arc. The first day it is a funny terracotta bust; a week later Bob Ross has a full green head of hair, and the office comes by to see it.
Watering the happy little trees
The listing says it reaches full growth in one to two weeks [1], with a simple six step care guide [1]. Water, seeds and a bright window do the work.
When the sprouts fade, the planter can be washed and replanted [1]. With three seed packets, that is three rounds of Bob Ross hair over the winter.
Chia makes a whole line of character planters [1], so it can start a small collection on a windowsill.
Light, water and patience
It is a plant first, so it needs a bright spot and regular water. A windowless office will slow it down.
The full hair look lasts a while and then fades, which is when the next planting starts.
Watering is the only chore. A spray bottle or a little water in the drip tray keeps it going, and the listing's six step guide covers the rest [1].
Who it suits
It suits painters, teachers and fans of the show, and it is a gentle joke for a mixed swap with kids. The listing says both kids and adults enjoy watching it sprout [1].
From the same guide, the Fred Manatea infuser is another small desk laugh, and the OTOTO Nessie Ladle is the kitchen version of a friendly joke.
It is also an easy gift to carry home from a swap: light, sturdy and packed in its own box.
