KingCamp Oversized Chair Review: Kind to a Bad Back?
A wide folding camp chair with a padded lumbar section, a heavy steel frame and a cup holder. Built for the sidelines, the dock and the tailgate, where a thin quad chair starts to hurt after an hour.
Yes, the KingCamp Oversized Camping Chair with Lumbar Support is a good gift for an older man who sits outside for hours, because the padded back supports the lower spine through a whole game and the frame holds big men [1]. Skip it if he struggles to stand up from a low camp seat [1].

Sideline seats and sore backs
Grandfathers spend a lot of time on sidelines: soccer games, baseball, swim meets. A thin quad chair sags in the middle and leaves the lower back unsupported. The KingCamp has a padded lumbar section that follows the spine and padding that keeps the front bar off his thighs [1].
The seat is about 10% wider than a standard camp chair, so bigger men are not squeezed at the hips [1]. Over a two hour game, that difference is what he notices.
Frame, fabric and pockets
The frame uses 22 mm powder coated steel tubes and is rated up to 550 lbs [1]. That is well beyond what most chairs claim, and it feels steady on uneven grass or a dock.
The seat is padded 600D polyester oxford fabric, with a cup holder and side pockets for a drink, a phone and a bag of peanuts [1]. It folds down and slides into an oversized carry bag with a shoulder strap [1].
Low seats and heavy frames
The catch for some older men is getting up. Like most camp chairs, it sits lower than a dining chair, and a man with bad knees or hips may need help rising. If that is him, look at a taller folding chair with arms meant for standing.
The steel frame also makes it heavier than a basic chair at about 5.6 kg [1]. Carried on a shoulder strap from the parking lot, it is fine. For a long walk to a beach, it is a load.
A chair for the grandkids' games
Give it before the spring sports season, or with a schedule of the grandkids' games tucked in the bag. A blanket and a thermos make it a full sideline kit.
From the same guide, the Buck folding knife and Smartwool socks suit the man who fishes or hunts, and the Bose SoundLink Flex brings the radio broadcast to the tailgate.
FAQ
How much weight does the KingCamp Oversized Camping Chair hold?
The listing says the KingCamp Oversized Camping Chair supports up to 550 lbs on a 22 mm powder coated steel frame [1]. The seat is also about 10% wider than standard camp chairs, so it suits big and tall men who find most folding chairs tight [1]
Is the KingCamp chair good for back pain?
The KingCamp Oversized Camping Chair has padded lumbar support that follows the curve of the spine, which many people with a sore lower back find more comfortable than a flat quad chair [1]. It is not a medical device, but it beats a sagging chair for a long game [1]
