Pros and cons
- Comfort food focus, so it suits relaxed eaters
- Some recipes are party food more than weeknight food
Tha Boss Dogg's kitchen
A plain cookbook is a duty gift. A Snoop Dogg cookbook is a conversation, and this is his first one [1].
The listing ties it to his cooking on the Emmy nominated show with Martha Stewart [1], so the recipes come with a personality most cookbooks lack.
That personality is the gift. The listing pitches it as a cookbook with more personality than most [1], so it reads as much as it cooks.
Fifty recipes, soul food first
It delivers fifty recipes straight from Snoop's own collection [1], with soul food staples like baked mac and cheese [1].
It is a hardcover of one hundred ninety two pages from Chronicle Books [1], sturdy enough to sit open on a counter. The listing calls it a New York Times bestseller with more than one and a half million copies sold [1].
Books also travel well in a gift swap: easy to wrap, easy to carry home, nothing to plug in.
Who it may not suit
The food is comfort food with plenty of butter and cheese. For someone on a strict diet, it is more fun to read than to cook from.
A few recipes are built for parties and holidays rather than a quick Tuesday dinner, which is part of the fun.
It is also a print book, so a cook who only uses recipe apps may treat it as a coffee table read first. That is fine for a white elephant swap, where the laugh is half the value.
Bringing a cookbook to a swap
It suits home cooks, music fans and college students learning to cook. Book lovers in the group will want it as well.
From the same guide, the OTOTO Nessie Ladle and the Nostalgia hot dog toaster make it a kitchen themed swap.
Pair it with the Nessie ladle for a kitchen bundle, or with a jar of a favorite hot sauce if the budget allows. Either way, it is a gift that gets opened again at home.
