A subscription request needs an ending as well as a beginning. “Three months of the service” could mean a fixed gift period, prepaid credit or a recurring account paid by someone else. Before choosing an offer, describe which arrangement you want and who will handle the account.

Describe the gift period first

Write the service, the intended plan and the duration. Say whether the gift should end after that period or whether you want to discuss continuation separately. Do not assume that an offer called a gift automatically stops billing. The provider's current terms determine how that particular offer works.

Check how the period begins. It might be tied to purchase, redemption or an existing account's billing cycle; ask the provider when this is unclear. If the recipient already uses the service, confirm that the intended gift is suitable for their account and plan before buying. A brand name alone is not enough to identify the arrangement.

Agree on account and payment responsibility

  • Who purchases the gift or starts the paid arrangement?
  • Who redeems or activates it, and when?
  • Whose account will receive it?
  • Who checks the end date and any continuation instructions?
  • Will there be another conversation before anyone pays for a further period?

Keep passwords and payment details out of the wishlist. The recipient can follow the provider's own account instructions. Do not promise that a purchaser can cancel someone else's account, or that deleting an app ends a subscription. Verify the actual method with the service involved.

A copyable request

Illustrative note: I would like a fixed three-month gift for this plan, if that option is available for my account. I will activate it after our conversation. Please do not start an ongoing payment arrangement. If only recurring options are offered, ask me before buying.

There is no price assumption in this example. It describes an agreement, not a service's current offer. For a seasonal version of the question, see the one-month Christmas subscription checklist. If that service cannot provide the requested arrangement, list approved alternative gifts rather than silently changing the duration.

Place the request in a GiftX wishlist, then confirm the purchase and account steps directly. After activation, record the actual start and end information from the provider and set your own reminder if useful. The valuable gift detail is a clear period and a clear owner for the next decision.
