A product link can open with the first available color or a default size. The person buying the gift then has to guess whether the picture or the selected option represents your choice. Write the variant as a separate instruction, even when the link appears to preserve it.
Name the choice as the shop names it
Use the retailer's color label, followed by a plain description if useful: “Forest, the dark green option.” “Blue” alone may leave several possibilities. Record the size and the system together, such as “EU 39 in this model,” rather than an isolated number. For objects, dimensions may matter more than a small, medium or large label.
Keep the product identity next to those details. A jacket's style name, a bottle's capacity or a bag's model helps distinguish a variant from a different product that looks similar. If the preference depends on a detail in a photograph, describe that detail too. A photograph can support the note, but should not carry the entire instruction.
A note someone can use
Illustrative request: the everyday tote, color “Clay,” regular size with the zip closure. Please choose this combination. A larger open-top version would not serve the same purpose. If this option disappears, ask before buying.
This note separates appearance, size and construction. The zip is a requirement, not an optional extra. You do not need to include a whole wardrobe history or body measurements. A reference to a previously worn item can be enough when you know the same model fits.
Check the selected variant before paying
- Compare the product name and model with the original request.
- Open the size guide for this specific item if fit is uncertain.
- Read the selected color and size in the basket, not just the main image.
- Pause if the required combination is unavailable; a nearby option is not permission to substitute.
If you want more room for choice, describe recipient-approved alternatives explicitly. If you are the buyer and still need fit information, use a size question that preserves the surprise. Confirm the final choice privately if the answer would disclose personal details.
If you plan to use store pickup, check the selected variant before placing the order, then agree who will collect and hand over the gift. A correct variant still needs a practical route to the recipient.
Keep the chosen item and its essential note together when using a GiftX wishlist. A wishlist communicates the request; the retailer's product page and basket still need a final check at the time of purchase.
